Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Corporate Development for Private Markets, the role of Director of ESG, Private Markets will be responsible for the strategic responsible investing plan for Manulife’s Private Markets group. Manulife is strengthening its responsible investment team with a strong commitment to continued ESG integration across all our major asset classes in public and private markets. You will be a key part of the Private Markets strategy team as we work to aggressively grow our business and build our brand.
Key Accountabilities: Deep and demonstrated knowledge of ESG issues and their applicability to private markets investing, specifically accountable for creating and implementing the applicable analytical and reporting frameworks relevant to investment decision-making E nsure that Manulife’s ESG policies and considerations are systematically integrated into the investment processes. You are a leader in your field and will provide expertise, guidance and the appropriate tools to identify and manage ESG-related risks. Represent the Private Markets team in internal committees run by Manulife’s global sustainability team. Support external communications to stakeholders including investors and partners including developing timely and engaging thought leadership pieces. Within Manulife, engage with a wide range of teams and work collaboratively with the Private Markets investment teams, Manulife Asset Management’s ESG team and the sustainability heads for Real Estate, Farmland and Timberland. Bring deep expertise in sustainability reporting and be accountable for firm-wide reporting to industry benchmarks on all Private Markets asset classes including Private Equity & Private Credit, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Farmland and Timberland.
Qualifications: University degree required; CFA, MBA or similar an asset 5 to 10 years work experience required; minimum 3 to 5 years of sustainability experience in an asset management or financial institution required; candidates with prior investment experience strongly preferred In-depth knowledge and experience with global reporting frameworks and standards for Private Markets asset classes required Strong research, writing and synthesizing skills with the ability to communicate complex information succinctly, including thought leadership pieces Strong communication and influencing skills when working with a range of internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels in the organization Deep and demonstrated knowledge of ESG issues and their applicability to private markets investing, specifically fluency with the applicable analytical and reporting frameworks relevant to investment decision-making Dynamic and passionate with a strong business acumen Collaborative mindset who excels in working in entrepreneurial environment
