Reporting directly to VP, Sector Marketing and Client Development, the Water Marketing & Communications Manager works with Water leadership, business line/sector and regional marketing teams on achieving the strategic direction of the Business Line. This is accomplished through marketing strategy development and implementation, brand management, account management and business development support, public and government relations, and marketing system support and leadership.

The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, can manage multiple concurrent initiatives, and enjoys working with different personality styles and management levels, both in person and across geographies.

Your Key Responsibilities

Sector Marketing Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Work closely with Business Line/Sector Leadership to lead/facilitate/provide direction and input to the development of the annual Water Marketing and Communications Plan.

  • Support Stantec’s corporate and sector goals for revenue growth, profitability, and market leadership in our selected target markets at the Business Line level.

  • Oversee and manage the implementation of the approved national promotional plans and approved sector marketing plans and budget using a mix of marketing tools, including advertising, client events, media, community investment, professional and business associations and events, social media, direct mail/eDM, conferences/tradeshows, and others as defined.

  • Work closely with the Sector pursuit/program lead on major strategic pursuit or program efforts to frame the strategy, win themes, differentiators, and potential teaming decisions, within the overall context of the Sector’s value propositions.

  • Brand Management / Public and Government Relations

  • Assess Stantec’s market positioning at the national level through primary and secondary market research and develop/implement communications strategies to move the Sector forward in achieving the desired market positioning.

  • Attend key business and community functions to represent Stantec’s senior leadership team in the business community.

  • Brand Awareness

  • Develop and implement strategy to build brand awareness through a coordinated program focused on thought leadership, design excellence and creativity.

  • Identify priority projects and thought leaders on an annual basis and develop robust plan with sector team to promote the brand.

  • Oversee direction of .com pages specific to market including, content development, sector landing pages, and enhanced expert pages.

  • Work with PR and local marketing team members to develop campaigns which feature people / projects / creativity and enhance the Stantec brand.

  • Content Marketing (CM)

  • Lead the content marketing strategy with specific sector campaign development in collaboration with the Sector Leadership team, BC leadership and regional marketing teams.

  • Research industry themes and trends for topic generation.

  • Assist sector team in the generation of content (narrative / graphics).

  • Conceive / strategize campaigns and themes that could drive content over a calendar year and manage production schedule and assignments

  • Marketing System Support/Leadership

  • Ensure appropriate sector representation through development and coordination of content for Stantec''s communications systems and tools, including the Stantec Marketing Knowledge Center (SMKC),, StanNet, Water community site, and social media in support of both internal and external promotion of service offerings throughout the Sector.
  • Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Detail oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills

  • Ability to effectively balance conflicting priorities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with web-based tools and Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer

  • Working knowledge in the use of desktop publishing software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Distiller

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of marketing and business development best practices

  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, supervisors, peers and clients, internally and externally

  • Excellent interviewing, written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong presentation skills in small or large group environments, with proficiency in presentation support tools (e.g., PowerPoint)

  • Education and Experience

    Post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or an equivalent level of experience.

    10-15 years of experience in a senior marketing role.

    Experience in the Architecture/Engineering/Consulting industry is preferred.
