Overview / Responsibilities

Wood''s office in Calgary is currently recruiting for a Pipeline Engineer in Training or Junior Pipeline Engineer. This s an entry level position which will lead to advancement to a fully qualified Pipeline Engineer working within the Oil and Gas Industry in an engineering capacity for above ground and buried cross country pipelines. 

Under the supervision of a qualified engineer, this duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Produce pipeline documents and drawings
  • Prepare pipeline design calculations (wall thickness, buoyancy, bending, etc.)
  • Produce Pipeline design reports
  • Provide input into pipeline engineering specifications, standards, and procedures
  • Complete Material Take Offs and associated Material Requisitions
  • Coordinate procurement bids and complete technical bid evaluations
  • Identify optimization and operating cost reduction opportunities
  • Ensure construction and field modifications meet the requirements of all applicable codes, standards and regulations
  • Preparing project designs, Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) cost estimates, economic justifications, project schedules
  • Skills / Qualifications

    The ideal candidate for this entry level position (0-2 years experience) should have the following capabilities:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in Chemical, Civil or Mechanical or Pipeline Engineering
  • Registeration with APEGA as either an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer.
  • A demonstrated interest in the pipeline industry with a preference given to those with previous experience such as summer or intern positions
  • Awareness of engineering standards relevant to the oil and gas pipeline industry (including ASME, API, and especially CSA, etc.) would be an asset
  • Awareness of with Alberta OH and S Code requirements
  • Good technical knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, while dealing with people from various disciplines
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and work independently
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills in English
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Must be able to work in Canada legally at time of application
