Job Description

Oxford Learning St. Catharines has an opening for an upbeat, passionate, committed, enthusiastic, and dynamic teacher who wants to work in a rewarding teaching environment. Our Elementary English Programs offer individual support to students looking to improve their academic skills and study habits.

Candidates must possess a strong passion for seeing students succeed and have a strong background in spoken and written English and be comfortable teaching up to Grade 8 is preferred. The candidate is required to instruct class sessions in English.

  • Specific Qualifications:
  • Experience in a teaching/tutoring environment in English
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting an asset.
  • Ontario Certified Teachers preferred

    Important Notes:

  • All tutor-candidates are trained to use the Interactive Coaching method. All tutors will participate in two weeks of intensive training (4 nights per week)┬áIncluding in-centre teacher training, online training, and at-home readings. Successful completion of this training will result in a position at the centre.

  • This position is part-time (between 6 to 12 hours per week). This position is Monday and Wednesday evenings OR Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:
    00 pm to 7:
    30 pm. There is no flexibility with these hours. Saturdays may also be required from 9:
    45 to 1:
    15 pm. Although the position is very few hours per week, we expect excellence and commitment from all of our tutors.

  • Tutoring is 3:
    1 ratio with students with varying needs, abilities and grade levels. A high level of flexibility is required as well as knowledge of behaviour management strategies, exceptional attention to detail and great multitasking. It is a fast-paced environment.

  • Private tutoring or tutoring for another organization (Tutor Bright, Kumon, etc.) is considered a conflict of interest and is not allowed. Working for public education (DSBN or NCDSB) is allowed and encouraged.

  • All tutors are required to provide a criminal background check and will need to complete a competency test (for English or Math) before being hired.
